Suspension of classes due to AH1N1 influenza virus

July 30, 2009

A lot of students are absent from their classes due to a flu. Since cases of AH1N1 or influenza virus are rapidly rising in many parts of the country, suspension of classes in some schools who are confirmed with this influenza virus are strictly imposed. My two graders have no classes since last week due to a confirmed case of the said virus in their school. Classes will resume August 3, 2009. Before classes were suspended the school administration called all the parents to a meeting and formally informed us all about the so called suspension of classes.

However, we were advised that suspension of classes will only happen once. When classes resume and there are still a lot of students who are sick or have flu then those students should prohibit themselves in going to school instead of suspending classes again. This virus commonly spreading around the country and in some other parts of the world caused some people to panic. I hope and pray that this virus will come to an end. Though there is not much enough reason to get panic, but we cannot get away ourselves from this especially if we see and hear death reports linking to AH1N1. In my own understanding this virus is deadly if there are complications like diabetes, pneumonia or any other respiratory problems. But, we should also bear in mind this common phrase: "prevention is better than a pound of cure". We should protect ourselves, increase our resistance to fight this influenza virus. We should wash our hands frequently and maintain enough distance in talking to people suspected of this virus, this virus lives in the air for three hours according to the doctor who gave us a little refresher about the subject. Eat more fruits and vegetables, for there are nutrients found in this stuff to combat against certain diseases.

Just a friendly reminder guys please cover your mouth every time you sneeze and cough. It is advised also to wear mask and bring with you alcohol or hand sanitizer. Sanitize your hands before eating or having a snack especially in public places to prevent the virus from entering into your mouth. During the three day flu don't give other medicines except paracetamol. Since it is rainy season Dengue cases are also dominant, giving the wrong medicines will result to early bleeding. Better consult your doctor if you see signs and symptoms of flu.

One of our pet died.

July 27, 2009

Last July 5, 2009 i wrote an article regarding our new pets (rabbits). For a period of time, these pets became part of us. Every weekend hubby together with the kids help each other in cleaning their area and bath them. Since i am the only person left in the house during the day the responsibility of feeding them is one of my job. I enjoyed it and they are easy to handle. When i wake up each morning i used to check them and give them food. Somebody told us before to keep them away from ants. Three days ago while sweeping the area at the back of our house i saw ants crawling going to the area near our pets. Unexpectedly yesterday morning the other one died. I don't know why, but i guess it was bitten by ants. Ian and Aaron buried it in our backyard. We only have one pet left now and i hope it will live longer with us.

Lost and found...

July 26, 2009

Hubby is very much concern about our boys as much as i do. Since today's hectic life depends so much on Cell phone as a simple means of communication, he wanted our three sons to have a Cell Phone each to easily contact them in school and every time they are away from home. Our eldest son Ian already have his own phone two years ago. My two other kids are enrolled in the same school so hubby decided to provide one nokia phone in the meantime for Aaron considering that he is one year older than Khrys, (Aaron is grade V now while Khrys is grade IV) Khrys understands it, and patiently waiting for his turn to have his own phone. Anyway Aaron shares his phone with his younger brother Khrys. He was so excited to explore all the features of it. While Aaron is enjoying his new gadget, one day he went home unknowingly without it. His unconsciousness awakened upon knowing his phone is nowhere to be found, unfortunately he could not pinpoint exactly where he lost it! The thought of losing it make me feel sad, though that phone is not that expensive but hubby worked for it. I did not hesitate to send a message to my husband informing him of what had happened and he called me back immediately. I suggested to him to dial Aaron's contact number, and luckily somebody answered. Thanks God! we found it. His classmate seated next to him found it in her bag according to the mother. It doesn't matter anymore why it was in her bag. Hubby and i are so glad to recover the phone yesterday afternoon and very thankful to his classmate for giving it back!

Biting nails...

July 24, 2009

Nail biting is one of the common habit among people of all ages. I have a classmate way back in high school who usually bites her nails and i could not think of any reason why she's fond of that. I could not forget her for that habit in fact i branded her Ms. nail bite...Now that i have my own kids i have observed that one of my son have that tendency of biting his nails. I had the chance to talk to some mothers in school and tried asking them if they have children who's habit is biting nails. And indeed we came up with the same observation. Personally i don't like seeing children and young adults biting their nails it is very unsanitary (for those who have this habit sorry guys, don't mean to hurt you). But why bite your nails? What motivates a person to develop a habit of biting their nails? Nail biting (onychophagia) is considered a common stress-relieving habit. When a person is confronted into a different situations like boredom, excitement, stress or just doing nothing, or any other activities like watching television, reading, etc. caught up biting their nails without realizing it. According to experts children bite their nails especially if they have problems in school or if they are into a stressful situation. Mommy's don't let your children fall into this kind of habit. You can stop this, directly talk to your children or discover the things that triggers them to bite their nails for you to find proper measures in stopping it before it can lead to a habit. We should remember nail biting can cause negative effects. It can cause infections around nailbeds and mouth, abnormal growth and deformed nails. Seldom, nail biting could also be a symptom of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) but this can be treated with medicines.

When you find your children biting their nails, try to divert their attentions or indulge them into activities like drawing, writing, or squeezing a stress ball. Awful taste put in nails will help reminds them to stop biting their nails too. For adults take care of your nails, keep it trimmed, you can use nail polish, wear artificial nails for it can help reduce the habit of biting your nails. These are just a few tips to combat the habit of nail biting. There maybe some measures or other ways to stop it, better seek the advice of professionals for more information.

An Organizer for my boys!

July 21, 2009

As a full time mom and a mother of three boys i can't help myself from being stress at times especially when i see scattered things around the house. I guess my boys needs an organizer where they can store their personal belongings. Last Saturday i had the chance to drop by in one of our malls here in our place. When i passed by along the school supplies section of the mall, suddenly, my attention was caught by these boxes with different designs, colors and sizes.

The prices are very affordable but i decided not to buy yet because the colors for me are too feminine, though i wanted to settle for the color blue but for the meantime also i will try to check with other malls, perhaps they have available colors for my boys.

A reunion party with fun and Ugly Sweaters

July 17, 2009

To wake up each morning with a good weather put me always in a light mood, and thinking about Christmas, counting the days before the holiday season makes me always excited even when i was still a little girl up to now. I remember It was November of last year After all my works at home has been fixed and done i set back and relax for awhile and start thinking for my next activity. Suddenly my phone rings and i heard a voice inviting me for an early dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was a call from a long time friend, who happens to be my classmate in high school. I was so excited to see her that i came to the venue a little bit early as scheduled. Since the place is fully air conditioned i wore a top covered with Ugly Sweaters a gift from grandma. I easily recalled how my neighbor appreciated this sweater during the time she first saw me wore this. She could not hide her curiosity of asking me where did i bought my sweater. Well, after a few minutes of waiting my friend came, along with some of our batch mates. We were so happy and excited to see and hug each other. The main agenda for that dinner is to plan a reunion for our batch. The group agreed the venue for the party and the scheduled date was December 23 a day before Christmas. Since the reunion falls on the day before Christmas we decided to have a sweater party to make it unique. I was assigned to look for a store where we can possibly order for the sweater to be used during the reunion. Hours passed and we parted ways that night. Upon arriving home i started to look for this Ugly Christmas Sweaters site and studied their offers. The batch were informed about the important details of the planned reunion and majority responded positively. My friend agreed to finance the orders for those who wanted to have the sweater. As in charge for ordering i don't have a qualms dealing with the company. Besides all orders are quickly process and arrived on time. They have all sort of styles, colors and sizes to choose from. Came the day of our reunion and everybody came proudly wearing a colorful ugly sweaters, ladies have no complains for they are comfortable wearing it, in fact they were busy comparing their sweaters that night which compliments one other. And so with Mens Ugly Sweaters, Men love it too, although some have few negative comments but to sum it up the feed backs were excellent. There was also an exchange of sweaters among batch mates. To add fun to the event, we played parlor games and the extra ugly sweaters became one of the prices. Everybody participated the games, they are after the prices and wanted to get the extra ugly sweaters. It was a night full of fun and success.

Care for a cereal?

July 16, 2009

Preparing something for breakfast is a common problem among individuals especially mommy's out there. But don't you know cereals is one of the quickest and nutritious food to prepare? I came across an article this morning about cereals though this is not new to me but i still find it interesting to share here a little something about it, and might be helpful to some. Cereals according to a study are low in fat and a good source of fiber. Fiber comes in two types: Insoluble which is good for the digestive tract and help reduce the risk of certain cancers. While soluble fiber can help lower blood cholesterol. Cereals provide the needed fiber intake of 25 to 38 grams of fiber daily for human consumption. Mommy's take note of this: "Children who include cereals for breakfast regularly have better overall vitamin and mineral intake than those eating other types of breakfast food." Actually my two children likes cereals, but, they eat it after their classes in the afternoon hehehe (baliktad ata)...Anyway at least they still consume it. Usually when they come home from school they prepare it themselves, they just add cold fresh milk on it and then that's it ready to eat. Of course there are different ways of preparing cereals, just try to check online for available preparations of cereals for your healthy diet.

Food trip tayo!

July 15, 2009

As a mom i used to cook our food in the house every day, i seldom buy ready made foods outside. For now i would like to show here some favorite food in the house which is easy to prepare and cook. Chicken curry is one of our favorite especially the kids, every week this menu is always present. For special occasions a brownie chocolate from Goldilocks is always on the table. The mixed vegetables is so delicious and i make sure it is not overcooked, the Tuna macaroni salad is an all time favorite.

Mixed vegetables: asparagus, sayote, chinese pechay, cauliflower, carrot, bell paper with chicken

My own version of Chicken curry: Potato, baguio beans, bell paper, carrot, curry powder mixed in evaporated milk instead of coconut milk
Tuna macaroni salad and a chocolate brownie from goldilocks

Reminiscing the time...and today!

July 14, 2009

I reminisce the time during my Elementary grade one of my teacher provided the whole class with assignment to look into the meaning of volcano. But, i could hardly remember where did i find my answer for that. All i can think of is that i complied that assignment. Now that i am married blessed with three kids and helping them with their assignments in school is quite tedious though admittedly rewarding at times especially when you get to see your children anxiously free from a heavy day and piled assignments. I am a full time mom now and i did not bothered to get the services of a tutor for my children, i do it alone and sometimes with the help also of my husband. When dealing with numbers i leave it to my hubby, i got low grades in math subjects during my college days, so, i am not comfortable with it.

I do believe history repeats and obviously there is a point of resemblance, what i have gone through during my days in school are exactly the same with them today. Things like assignments, studying for upcoming exams, making projects, etc. is a similar thing of my past days in school. Everyday i would ask my kids so many questions sometimes it is still the same questions i asked previously and i know they are irritated. Well, that's me as a mom, i just want to make sure they will get good grades. There was a time when my other son had an assignment about "volcanoes"...and this time i know exactly where he gets his answers. Todays generation are lucky enough to have many sources for research works, unlike before during our time when we have no computer. Though very useful let us not forget the harmful effects it can cause to our children. As responsible parents proper guidance in the use of this technology should strictly be imposed.

Since i mentioned about volcano, before i say goodbye for today,( i'l be out for some important matters to attend ) let me share with you a little trivia about Mayon Volcano. "Mayon volcano" is considered as one of the most active volcano in the Philippines. This is located Eastern province of Albay, 300km. southeast Manila. Very popular for its beauty and perfect cone shaped. It has recorded 43 erruptions since 1616.

Todays record...and the Thing that makes me awake!

June 13, 2009

Its Monday and for some they hate this day. Perhaps because Saturdays and Sundays are too short to have an escapade especially for individuals who love discovering new things and spending quality time with their loved ones and family somewhere else. My eldest son came home early this morning classes were suspended due to transport strike. Moving on with todays happenings, well, we are experiencing again a bad weather, awhile ago there was rain showers and now its raining. A few hours ago i surf for some widgets and i found some. I visited fellow bloggers left comments, and joined their sites. I also checked the stats of my website and proudly say its gaining more visitors and followers. Hope i can maintain that and i'm heavily working on my Page Rank. Huh! i don't know, i hope i did the right thing on how to increase my PR. Though my site is new and exist barely four months now, sometimes i can't help myself thinking and wondering why and how those newly emerged sites gained a PR of one or two immediately!!! wow! there must be secrets to that which i need to ascertain. Anyway, so much on this i would like to share photo of my, lets say...happiness in the house when i am alone. The one that gives me joy and suppresses my boredom. Recently i am addicted to it although my hubby could not directly tell me but i can sense through his words and reactions. I admit when i am infront of this i sometimes tend to focus on it without minding some house chores especially during weekends. My hubby sometimes commented on this but i guess he just understands me. Of course i know my responsibilities as a mom and the time that i should be spending infront of it, but there are times that i cannot resist it...well, this technology keeps me updated of what is happening locally and globally. I can see my old friends, exchange thoughts with others and most importantly i can track the data and update my blog. This is it...the technology that sometimes left me awake during night time and long hours of the day. Our computer!

Cousin gave me a Towel Wrap and other stuff from PosyLane...

June 12, 2009

I have a dear a cousin who has been my constant companion during high school and college days. I missed her presence and funny jokes. She made me smile and laugh every time i feel depressed and in a solitary mood. She married her fiance two years ago and decided to live abroad with him. She sent email occasionally especially if she's not fully occupied with her work. As usual i can perceived through her emails the funny girl i used to know, and we laughed often every time we talk over the phone. Being funny and naughty sometimes is her trademark. I remember valentines day of last year i received a gift handed to me by her younger sister. I was so excited that time to open the gift, it was wrapped in a red colorful silky paper with hearts design. I slowly open it without looking at it, i can feel the object inside the box, it was so soft. I can't wait for another second to see what it is. Wow! it was a very beautiful Towel Wrap which she mentioned in her email. To satisfy my excitement i used it the following morning and i can say it really feels great, very comfortable and very soft. In fact my sister wanted it. I added it to my list of treasured gifts. Comes Christmas of that same year i received a package from her and when i unwrapped it there was again a note saying: here is your next surprise! It was a laundry bag with some small items inside. Yes! she really made me teary eyed at that moment, i terribly missed her. The laundry bag is very nice, easy to carry and with good quality materials. I've been using it for more than a year now. Her surprises did not end there. Last summer she sent me two nap mats as her gift to my kids. My kids bring it in school and used it during an after lunch nap. My kids told me they are very comfortable with it. Not only that every time we go outing and visit my sister we bring it with us, it is easy to carry and very neat. you can carry it as it is, very organized to look at. I am so thankful for all the things my cousin gave me. They were all useful and i take good care of those things. My cousin buys from Posy Lane a store with friendly and accommodating employees. All the products from Posy Lane are made of high quality materials, you will not regret it. Their products are best choices as gift to your loved ones. I can personally attest to that by using their products through my cousin. I am proudly recommending the products of Posy Lane.

Highly Anticipated Kiss? ...Emma and Rupert.

July 11, 2009

British actors (L-R), and arrive for the world premiere of
Harry Potter stars are grown up now, the way they look and dress up. Look at Emma here i find her sexy with this plunging neckline. Rupert too looks decent and very gentleman. But one thing i noticed about Rupert is his height his not that tall but i like the way he smile, i suddenly remember the sweet smile of Gabby Concepcion!hehehe...Well, whatever my observations forget it. "Harry Potter" stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint recently filmed a highly anticipated kiss as characters Hermione and Ron in the final book which accordingly divided into two films "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" though it is still unspecified as of this time either of the two movies contain the the highly anticipated kiss, fans all over the world are so excited to watch their on screen kiss as Hermione and Ron. "Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince" will be shown on July 15 while the first part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" is due out in late 2010 and part two is planned for release in 2011. Although I was not able to watch some of the previous movies of Harry Potter i think this time around without mentioning the highly anticipated kiss of the lead stars i will surely watch the final book.

My boys birthday today!

July 10, 2009

Today July 10 is the birthday of my eldest son Ian Kristoffer and my youngest son Khrys Daniel. They both were born on the same month and date...coincidentally me and my husband also have the same birthday which is February 12. I gave birth to my three kids by way of cesarean operation. By the way Aaron next to my eldest son was born on the month of February also. I wanted to have my operation February 12 so that the three of us will have similar birthday, but the doctor said it is still premature. Supposed to be Feb. 28 but i bargained for an earlier date. So Aaron's birthday falls every Feb 18. We don't usually organize a party during our birthdays, we just greet one another and if there is adequate budget i make something like spaghetti which is my kids favorite-and simple menu where we can share with my family, or we eat outside. My kids are not fond of parties, at times they would just ask for a cake and ice cream and we eat it together. Today is friday, Ian's class will end 8:30 in the evening and Khrys will be home at 5:30pm. So their time is conflicting...perhaps we will delight the two of them tomorrow for a lunch outside. Khrys Daniel is requesting for "maong"pants or jeans as birthday gift while Ian did not bother to ask for anything.
To you my dear Ian and Khrys

I wish you all the happiness and good health. Mama Papa and Aaron love you so much.

I almost lost my patience and flared up!

June 08, 2009

There are many companies offering internet connections but we choose Globe company. At first we were using wireless antenna but we find it too slow and the signal is not stable. This prompted me to call their customer service so often to update officially the status of our connection. There was a time then when i called thrice a day informing the CSR (Customer Service Representative) of the same problem. I almost lost my patience during the time when i am doing my task online and then suddenly it signalled: internet connection local only. Grrrrr! sounds crazy hehehe...i did not hesitate to call their customer service again, the worst thing is when i tried to call, know what happened? my phone turned off-meaning low batt! I immediately charge it and when i tried to call again, whew!...cannot call because i have no load. Although its free but you have at least enough balance in order to make a call. My cellphone is prepaid, unlike postpaid it would be easy to call anytime. I ordered my son to buy me a load at a nearby store, when my load was credited i dialed their number without listening to my husbands advise to call later. My temper was still at a high level that time. I go on with my emotions and honestly, i realized i should have not acted that way. It was unprofessional to flare up and say something foul to a person over the phone, situations like this cannot be avoided especially if you are in a state of anger. Better let your emotions cool down before doing something. Everyhting can be done in a good manner...besides, during that time also they are still on the process of upgrading their system here in our area. In fact in fairness with them they are very apologetic of what had happened.

After almost two months of using a wireless connection, we switched to wired, its very stable and so far i don't experience any interruptions. By the way i forgot to mention that my task online during that day lapsed. Well, its okay---i guess...charged to experience...

Easy steps to fade away Age spots!

June 07, 2009

imwriter Kristi Taylor is a professional copywriter and internet marketing consultant with over 10 years of professional writing experience. She is a versatile and passionate about the topics she writes about.

I have read the article of Kristi Taylor this morning and i have learned some tips or simple steps to lighten age spots.

Kristi Taylor mentioned to use a high powered sunscreen everyday to protect your face from UV and avoid cigarettes because it can cause age spots and wrinkles. Look also for a skin care products that has Nutgrass Root ingredient because this herbal extract is proven to reduce the appearance of age spots up to 40% and lightens melanin quickly. It is also important to establish a daily care routine, clean face everyday and use gentle facial cleanser, and follow it up with moisturizer. She also emphasize the use of natural products that will lighten age spots. After washing your face gently rub lemon juice on your face and leave it there for a few minutes. After rinsing apply aloe vera gel and glycerin mix. Mix 2 parts aloe vera gel with 1 part vegetable glycerin. These can be found in any local health store.

So simple isn't it? hmmm!...i think i will try this at home, besides i don't have to spend much money and time to go to any derma clinics. I hope these tips will help everybody out there to get rid of age spots. Age spots normally are signs that our skin is getting older and this happens to everyone.

A lot of cosmetics are circulating in the market today. We should bear in mind that it is still best to learn the dangers of cosmetics and other personal care products for safety.

Note:

One of the easiest, economical and most effective home remedies for fading age spots on our skin is lemon juice and this was mentioned in the above paragraph. Simply dip a clean makeup brush into lemon juice - full strength for normal skin or 50% lemon juice and 50% distilled water for sensitive skin. Gently paint or rub the lemon juice with your clean finger tips over the age spots and/or freckles on your face. With nightly use, you will see the skin pigment fade, revealing smoother and younger looking skin.

What happened yesterday?...and today!

June 4, 2009

My husband and i received a text message yesterday morning at about 8:30 from my son Aaron's teacher, informing us that we need to fetch Aaron from school because he cannot concentrate on his lessons due to his continous sneezing, runny nose and itchy eye. When i arrived in school i have notice he could hardly open his right eye. I thought it was a sore eye, but i also suspect it was an allergy. My husband advised me to bring Aaron to the doctor for proper check up. I brought Aaron to an allergologist at the Davao doctors hospital and the doctor told me it was indeed an allergy. The doctor suggested to undergo an allergy test for Aaron, but we scheduled it at a later date, we are not yet ready and besides its quite expensive. I agree with the doctor, it would be very important to know exactly Aaron's allergens to prevent it. Aside from dust i think he has another allergens that we cannot identify right now. If we can identify now his other allergen then it would be a lot better. A frequent visit to a doctor could be minimize. For the meantime while waiting for his schedule to go an allergy test he is taking antihistamine for his medications.

What else for today? Well, My boys together with my hubby left to watch a movie its called Transformers. Last weekend they were not able to watch it because the cinemas are full packed. I hope today they are accommodated...i guess they pay too much attention to the movie because no one bothers to answer my text messages. I decided not to go with them because i have something else to finish and the weather is not so good. Its partly cloudy and i can hear occasional thunder, and now...undoubtedly its raining!!!

That's all for now folks! Its five pm already i have to prepare and cook for our dinner tonight. I am sure my boys are all hungry when they come home. Happy weekend everyone!

july 01....10:38pm Philippine time

Thanks God! my father checked out from the hospital this afternoon. He stayed in the hospital for 5days. Now he can rest better at home, as the saying goes: there's no place like home. To my mother and older sister who stayed with him in the hospital day and night- i am sure they will sleep soundly tonight. Well, i think i must go to sleep now! Its raining again, and i pray it will not cause flood just like what happened the other night...Good night everyone!
